Women’s March to the Polls
Register for March

The Women's March Phoenix Reconvenes on SUNDAY JANUARY 21st 2018!

We are a women-led movement that seeks to break down systemic oppression through nonviolent action, and we are back in 2018 with a new objective: Bringing the power of the women’s vote from the streets to the polls. On January 21, 2018, we reconvene at the Arizona State Capitol, not to protest that which has already taken place, but to advance progressive legislation and to give a voice to the progressive women who seek office in Arizona in 2018. We invite all who stand with the unifying principles of ending violence, protecting the reproductive rights of women, supporting the rights of the LGBTQIA community, advocating for wage equity, defending civil rights, promoting environmental justice, the rights of immigrants, and disability rights.

We come with a diverse group of speakers who will address the legislation and causes that are critical to women in 2018. Following the march, we will host a number of progressive organizations, candidates, and change-makers who will offer opportunities to the public for small ways to make a big change. We will offer voter registration and opportunities for the public to bring voter registration to historically underserved and underrepresented communities. This is what we believe will be the driving force for turning the tables in the 2018 elections and beyond. Additionally, you can expect live music, live art, interactive experiences, food trucks, and more.

Women, and in particular, women of color, have proven to be a formidable voice for justice reform at the ballot box. Together, we can bring the voice of women to the vote in Arizona!

This is a family-friendly event. We expect a large turnout and request that people leave their pets at home, with the exception of service animals. The event is wheelchair and stroller accessible and will have police support. We will provide bathrooms, sign language interpreters, and limited seating for those who need it. We look forward to seeing you at the march, and we’ll see you at the polls, Arizona!"

FACTS MATTER in 4 Ways
    1. The Founding Fathers’ feared if they cast power out to the people, they would not know enough to self-govern successfully and “factions” would take control.
    2. How funny, famous and dangerous political commercials manipulate people emotionally instead of informing them intellectually.
    3. “A lie can trace halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes.” ~Mark Twain
The growth of lies and how the people’s expectation of them has turned to acceptance of them.
    4. On Point: A practical approach and demonstration of how to easily and instantly defend your right to the facts at any time and in any place right over your cell phone and other mobile devices.

Program will be a presentation by Sam Campana who requested an opportunity to speak to us again, now that the commission she heads have their plans set for the Desert EDGE (new name for the DDC). The Scottsdale Team has heard from a few of the council members, the leader of the NoDDC faction and others.

Letter on DDC to Scottsdale Independent from Judy Levine

LWVMP believes the city council should submit the proposal to the taxpaying citizens of Scottsdale for a vote. While LWV will not be supporting or rejecting the final proposal at this time, pending new developments, we will press for the public vote and help to disseminate information on the final proposal.

Event Description:

Guest Speaker: LWVMP member Alice Stambaugh on the National Popular Vote Compact.

The current Electoral College system, grounded in state laws which allocate electoral votes on a winner-take-all basis, leads presidential candidates to concentrate their resources on voters in a handful of swing states, relegating the vast majority of the country to spectator status.
The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact would change this, guaranteeing the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Plan to attend the Sept. 13 meeting to find out: what NPV is, how it will work, how likely it is to take effect in the near future, and why we should not try to eliminate the Electoral College at this time despite the LWV positions statement to that effect.
