Criminal Justice Issues Advocacy Committee 


Focus of the Team

  • Accountability and transparency in policing, courts, corrections and reentry.

  • Ensure that law enforcement adopts standards that recognize their role to respect all people, treat them with dignity, work with local communities to adopt policies that protect all & ensure public safety and justice

  • Restoration of voting rights to citizens who were formerly incarcerated

  • Expanding access for jail-based voting

  • Alternatives to Community Safety 

Current Projects

  • Restoration of voting rights for individuals who were formerly incarcerated.  Current work is funded by LWVUS grant to create resource materials available as handouts and on the LWVMP website. Restoration of Voting Rights

  • Observing Phoenix City Council Public Safety and Justice subcommittee 

  • Conversations with the Phoenix Office of Accountability and Transparency - We hosted events to educate LWVMP members residing in Phoenix about the work of the Office of Accountability and Transparency and how we as an organization can support the efforts of the office to provide civilian oversight of  administrative investigations of misconduct allegations against members of the Phoenix Police Department, and to receive community feedback regarding complaints, commendations, concerns and/or other comments about policing in Phoenix.

  • Exploring and promoting successful alternatives to Community Safety

  • Working to expand access for jail based voting
